UGANDA FURTHER EMBRACING ADR
On 25th April 2019 Wope Nam joined honourable members from the Judiciary, Ministry of Justice and Constitutional affairs, Bankers' Association, Uganda Manufacturers' association and other private sector members at Trust towers, Nakasero, Kampala to launch the International Centre for Arbitration & Mediation in Kampala - ICAMEK.
The interim chair of the ICAMEK committee, former Uganda Law Society president, Mr. Francis Gimara, led the concise ADR- affirmative speeches given by other honourable guests such as the chairman of the Uganda Bankers’ Association – Mr. Patrick Muhiire, Principal judge – Hon. Justice Bamwiire and chief guest of honour, Hon. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire. All the speeches couldn’t exhaust the significance of ADR in any economy.
Through mediating, arbitrating, negotiating and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, less time and money is spent in settling disputes and put towards more constructive and productive economy-building efforts. Through ADR disputing parties will not only save time and money but their relationships as well. ADR is an access to justice. ICAMEK arbitration awards are enforceable in all the relevant courts of law in Uganda.
